Huayna Picchu

The last stop on our Machu Picchu adventure was the top of Huayna Picchu. This climb requires a reasonable level of fitness, appropriate footwear and is definitely not for people who are afraid of heights. But before I scare you off; getting to the top of Huayna Picchu looks worse than it is! The climb takes you about 1,5 hours and most of the time you can hold onto a handrail, a rope or the rocks. So for me, Huayna Picchu was the absolute highlight and I will certainly remember it for a very long time.

Machu Picchu

After our four hour train ride, lunch in Aguas Calientes and a 25 minutes bus ride, we finally got there; Machu Picchu! This city of the gods was built by the Incas around 1450 and is now one of the seven wonders of the world. Stunned by the mystical views, we spent here the entire afternoon and explored almost every corner of the ruins. Our private guide from Sungate Tours also told us everything we need to know and showed us the very best spots for pictures. What a day!

Our train ride to Machu Picchu

The most common and clearly easiest way to go to Machu Picchu is definitely by train. Here you can choose between PeruRail and IncaRail. We decided to take the Vistadome train from PeruRail with its comfy seats and large panoramic windows. In this way we were able to see the peruvian landscape and enjoy the ride to the fullest.
