Memories of Rome

Unbelievable, but it is almost a year since I moved away from Rome. I spent there wonderful one and a half years and left last February with many great memories.

I also have to admit, that it actually took me quite a while to fall in love with this city. Yes! Rome is the epitome of  "la dolce vita". The charming restaurants, the tasteful wine and history wherever you look. Amazing!

Nevertheless, if you are a resident, you also have to face the reality. The rediculously expensive rental rates (compared with what you get), the crowded public transportation (which I had to use every day), the rubbish, the public transportation strikes (almost without warning), the lack of social services and of course the fact, that everything (except the espresso at the bar) is slow moving and chaotic!

However, sooner or later you get used to everything and at some point you start this love-hate relationship with the city!

But let me introduce you to the nice and beautiful things -  in and about - Rome:

One of my favorite dining places was La Bottega del Caffè at Piazza della Madonna dei Monti. I loved their "Penne al Salmone" with a glass "Chardonnay Preludio N° 1".

The most impressive building for me was (and  is) the Pantheon. It is one of the best-preserved of all Roman buildings. At the top of the dome is a large opening, the oculus, which is the only source of illumination. No visitor should miss this!

I also adore the "Giardino degli Aranci" and the lovely neighborhood around.

Ever heard of the Aventine Keyhole?!  It's not far from "Giardino degli Aranci". Just make your way to the end of "Via di Santa Sabina" and look through the keyhole of the green door. It's really special ;-)
